Competition comes from a lack mentality.

I forgot who said this awhile back, but it changed the way I looked at work.  “Competition comes from a lack mentality.”  It makes so much sense because competition occurs when there is a limited amount of resource, and everyone is trying to get a piece of the pie. But the universe itself is abundant.

I think of companies like Apple and Google and you realize they did not come about trying to compete, they tried to make value and quality. They created a market for themselves, and out of thin air they created abundance.

When you compete, even if you win you will always end up losing. There is always someone that will be better than you, faster than you, and bigger than you. In a sense competition also brings about the lack mentality — you will always lack something if you focus on lack.  If you focus on creation of value, you focus on abundance.
